Field visit by IGCS focus area “WASTE” team

IGCS focus area “WASTE” team Prof. Vinu, Prof. Dirk Weichgrebe and his Leibniz University Hannover research team, and IGCS postdoc Dr. Mozhiarasi made a field visit to OxiLoc project site (Closed Landfill Methane Oxidation) BAWN and MSW Nienburg transfer station in Lower Saxony, Germany on 27.07.2023. In continuation, on 28.07.2023, the team also visited Plastic waste sorting and recycling facility, GAR Gesellschaft für Abfall u. Recycling mbH & Co. KG Recycling park: Kätinger Heide meeting landbell company and Rest waste treatment facility, RABA BASSUM.

The field visits have been supplemented with some fruitful presentations and futuristic discussions. Overall, the field visit gave the team valuable insights on the waste segregation in recycling centers, and possible scope for building research projects and models in India through fruitful collaborations.

Water Security and Climate Adaptation Conference (WSCA 2023) from Oct 4-7, in Chennai

The Global Water and Climate Adaptation Centre is inviting delegates to participate in the Water Security and Climate Adaptation Conference (WSCA 2023) taking place from October 4th to 7th, 2023, at IIT Madras in Chennai, India.

The conference is organized by the Global Water and Climate Adaptation Centre, Aachen – Bangkok – Chennai – Dresden (ABCD Centre) comprising the Institute of Eminence from Germany, Asia; RWTH Aachen University; Asian Institute of Technology (AIT); Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM); United Nations University – Institute for Integrated Management of Material Fluxes and of Resources (UNU-FLORES); and Technical University Dresden (TUD).

The conference aims to address the global water crisis and the link between water access and global warming. It emphasizes the importance of UN Sustainable Development Goal 6 and marks the halfway point of the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development.” The conference, funded by DAAD, will bring together partners from various sectors to focus on sustainable development and the implementation of climate adaptation measures. The organizers are planning for the conference to be held in person to facilitate meaningful interaction and collaboration. IGCS Post-doc Dr. Khulud Alsouleman moderates DAAD web talk

IGCS post-doc Dr. Khulud Alsouleman will moderate a session in a web talk series called “Alumni for SDG” organized by the DAAD Regional Office New Delhi. The focus of the web talks is on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 7, which is Affordable and Clean Energy. The series will be conducted over two days and will discuss various topics related to alternative energy sources and energy transitions for sustainable practices.

Day 1 of the web talks will concentrate on “Renewable Energy Sources and Climate Change Mitigation.” The speakers for this session include Prof. Dr. Prakash C. Tiwari, Abhishek Rathi, and Dr. Syukri Muhammad Nur. The moderator for this session is Prof. Dr. Sunil Prasad Lohani.

Day 2 will cover “Green Energy Transitions for Sustainability and Technology Development.” The speakers for this session are Dr. Sanjay Kumar Singh, Dr. Malay Das, and Dr. Abdus Samad. The moderator for this session is Dr. Khulud Alsouleman.
